Nutrition
Homemade, complete & balanced, fresh meat-based diets are the most nutritious and delicious meals you can feed your dog.
A dog’s natural diet — primarily prey animals with small amounts of eggs, nuts, vegetables, and fruits — is still their healthiest diet.
A dog’s natural diet consists primarily of fresh raw meats – not canned, frozen, or extruded. Processing, especially the high temperature high-pressure extrusion of dry foods, is harsh on nutrients. With high-temperature cooking, protein structures are changed, some fats oxidized, all enzymes destroyed, most vitamins reduced, and many minerals become less available.
Fresh meats are tastier and more nutritious than frozen meats because the cell walls are still intact. Therefore the nutrients and flavors are not released until your dog eats.
Why use our mix?
Because all-muscle meat diets, and even meat and bone diets, do not provide all the nutrients, including iron, copper, manganese, zinc, iodine, thiamine, and vitamins D and E that all dogs need. These nutrients are even more important for puppies.
A dog’s natural diet includes mineral-rich parts of animals – bones, head, glands, organs, digestive tract, blood – that are often not available to those who make their own foods. Our dinner mixes contain mineral- rich foods and quality supplements to ensure the optimum amounts of minerals – from both a natural or “prey-model diet” perspective, and following the recommendations from the National Research Council (2006, Nutrient Requirements of Dogs and Cats) and AAFCO nutrient profiles.
